Volunteer

Volunteers run Newfound projects. As a volunteer, you might read, vote on, edit, and solicit writing, steward the editorial process, and/or cheer your published writers online or at one of our annual readings. You will also receive invitations throughout the year to join our tri-annual writing circle and to apply for professional development funds.

Our Values

We believe art is a tool of intra/inter-personal transformation and socio-political change. Through a work culture of care, Newfound amplifies voices of emerging and historically underrepresented writers and artists. We strive to serve the needs of arts communities in collaboration with other values-driven publishers.

Our Projects

The journal is published bimonthly online and features fiction, flash, interviews, nonfiction, poetry, reviews, and visual arts.

We also publish poetry chapbooks through the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Poetry Prize and Emerging Poets Series and prose chapbooks through the Newfound Prose Prize.

Volunteer Support

Our volunteers are our greatest resource. Although volunteering itself can be a pillar of literary citizenship, we recognize our volunteers as citizens of arts communities and support the development of skills necessary to perform job-related duties, as well as in community engagement at the level of the organization.

Three times annually, we organize multi-genre discussions of volunteer creative work to share our lived experiences and craft insights and to support each other in process and publication.

Newfound provides reimbursement for volunteers for pre-approved job-related expenses, specifically trade association meetings and education expenses per our Professional Development Program.
