Letter from the Editor
Vo. 7, Issue 1
Thank you for reading and making yet another amazing year at Newfound possible.
Here are some recent highlights:
- The latest web issue of the journal is live. Personal favorites include, but are definitely not limited to Kevin Grauke’s story about a taxidermist in love, Emily Hunt’s poem about fifty-five colors, and Katrina Keuple’s photographs of Latvian subculture.
- Our second annual print issue is available for purchase. It’s twice as pretty as the last one. That’s pretty pretty.
- Last year, we raised the issue of gender inequality in our journal thanks to the work of VIDA and it looks like we all took those talks seriously: 2015: 32 female–28 male versus 2014: 21 female–27 male. The girls are kicking the boys’ butts. Actually, the gender gap is smaller this year in our web issues. There’s more women on planet Earth, anyway, so I think we’ve got it about right.
- Our annual Newfound Prose Prize is open until March. Get your submissions in soon! Our guest judge is Chelsea Martin. The prize is $500 plus publication of your work in a fine chapbook.
Keep sending love in the form of exceptional submissions. Reach out to us through social media or email. We want to hear where you’re calling from.
My very best,
Daniel Levis Keltner, Managing Editor
